Hi there, i'm a web developer.
I'm pretty good at...
Semantic, tidy, clean.
and future proof.
Separation of style and content. Mobile friendly, responsive.
with a minimum of fuss.
jQuery skills to boot.
Although my passion is front end, I've got the backend skills to back it up. Having a grasp of server side scripting makes for great AJAX functionality, and it means I can go it alone when needed.
All that data has to get stored somewhere. I can't say normalising databases is tonnes of fun, but knowing whats going on in the database is important, especially integrating with 3rd party systems.
Having a platform makes sites easier to manage and apps quicker to build. I'll work with almost any system, but I think I'm allowed to call myself a certified* Wordpress "ninja" at this point. *uncertified
Amazon Web Services is my jam at the moment. What's not to love? Scalable hosting, pay for what you use. I can make Amazon work for you. Bonus points: This site is hosted on Amazon. BAM!
If you're not using version control, you're doing it wrong (you know who you are!). Keeping control over your source code, and knowing who is doing what to it and why is super important. I'm a big fan of GIT for version control, but SVN can fit the bill too, and I'm happy to use either. So get that source code under control and stop releasing broken code.
You may have noticed I love AWS (Amazon Web Services). It's great for tailoring a truly "beautiful" hosting solution specifically to your needs. You want nginx? You got it! Want to use a CDN? no problem! You want to run a modern open-source PHP CMS on IIS6.... BAD! NO! BAD CLIENT! But what if your requirements are simple and you just want an easy web admin? Shared cPanel hosting and the like might be the "quick and dirty" of the hosting world, but it works for a lot of websites. Want something more powerful but not ready to move into the cloud? VPS hosting can do the trick. I can talk you through your options and come up with the best solution.
LESS and SASS are both CSS preprocessor languages. This means you can write CSS in a way that's smarter and easier to understand. It also makes for code that's easier for developers to maintain. I dig both LESS and SASS and use it on any new project.
AAAAAAW YEAH! Pale Ales, Lager or Pilsener, I loves me some beer brewing. It's fun to do, costs next to nothing, and the results can be deliciously satisfying. I love to share around the fruits of my labour.
